Abstract:

Despite many research on strategic information systems planning (SISP), it is still being ranked among critical issues of firms. Basically, IT rapid evolution, environment turbulence, increasing strategic role of IS and its development are some of incentives for businesses to conduct SISP. Effective SISP, as a managerial issue, is crucial for a modern firm to gain e-business competitive advantage. Additionally, SISP specifications with considering costs of improper SISP make it a valuable area for more research and investigation by researchers and practitioners. More research in this field will not be possible without reviewing previous research and findings. Therefore, in present study, former research on SISP success is reviewed. The research conducted on SISP during last forty years can be categorized into two broad categories that are: (1) SISP success measurement studies and (2) research on SISP success factors. The first category explains two dimensions for SISP success and the second category involves research on SISP success predictors, and other influential factors affecting relationship between SISP predictors and SISP success such as SISP approach and SISP context. Research discussion for each section and conclusion are also provided.
