Investigation and simulation of a nano cavity metal-insulator semiconductor-insulator- metal plasmonic waveguide abstract

The miniaturization of optical waveguides and devices has been attract many researchers as a field of advanced photonic systems. Plasmonics, potentially being able to break the diffraction limit, has been utilized as a novel guiding mechanism for light transmission and routing at the subwavelength scale. Various types of plasmonic waveguides and devices have been proposed and demonstrated for a wide range of applications from optical interconnects to sensing [15]. in this paper we proposed a nanometal cavity plasmonic waveguide with symmetric Metal-insulator-semiconductor-insulator-metal geometry that use metal as a cavity and a semiconductor with high material gain has used to reduce the threshold gain and compensate optical loss of metal. an insulating layer is usually inserted between metal cladding and semiconductor active region to prevent charge transfer from active region to metal layer.
