DESIGN OF SLIPWAY FACILITY FOR REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE OFPORT CRAFTS abstract
The proposed slipway facility at Kandla Port where a large tidal variation exists, is situated on a soft clay deposit characterised by low shear strength and high compressibility. In order to eet the shortfall of the dry dock capacity, a slipway track with two berths for repair and maintenance of crafts has been designed for a maximum vessel displacement of 140 tonnes. The inclination of the slipway track is kept as 1 in 12, since it is found to be most economical slope. The slipway facility is provided with cradle arrangements for transferring of the vessel from the track to the repair yard. The slipway facility, which is of end on type, has been analysed and designed for the existing soil condition using finite element method.
