A Palynological Study on Potential Ornamental Plants: Some Campanula ssp. from Turkey abstract

Campanula or Bellflower is a delightfully attractive plant known for its colorful (purple and blue to white and pink.). It takes its name from their bell-shaped flowers. Bellflowers are very useful in gardens of various styles. In this study, the pollen morphology of four taxa belonging of Campanula genus fromTurkey were examined using light microscope and scanning electron microscope. These taxa are: C. lactiflora Bieb., C. alliariifolia Willd. , C. latifolia L., C. myritifolia Boiss.&Heldr...Pollen size, pore diameter, spinule size and number, ornamentation, etc. as palynological characters, were examined anddiscussed. Pollen grains of 4 taxa are triporate, tectum scabrate. The exine sculpture is granulate-scabrate (C. alliariifolia), striate-scabrate (C. myritifolia), reticulate-rugulate-scabrate (C. latifolia), retipilatescabrate (C. lactiflora).
