Process Knowledge Management Model abstract

Knowledge Management has turned into a vital business issue as organizations and companies increasingly see their competitive advantage in their intangible and knowledge assets. Processes are fundamental constituent of businesses. Excelling at business processes that are mostly knowledge intensive these days, require proper knowledge management systems, procedures and technologies in place. One of the most important domains that KM specialists, professionals and practitioners has neglected is methods and tools for assessing process related knowledge and knowledge management models specially designed for process performance improvement. The Process Knowledge Management Model proposed in this article is a flexible multi stage and highly collaborative procedure, equipped with qualitative and quantitative tools. Considering the Key Performance Indicators, primary step is dedicated to determine the critical and strategic business processes. Then the model proceeds to a tool called Process Knowledge Sensor which ranks the processes regarding their knowledge intensity. Highrank processes are analyzed through a set workshops and surveys, to draw knowledge maps called Process KMaps based on an innovative knowledge modeling protocol. The model has been tested and implemented as a part of a knowledge audit model in a giant steel company in Middle East.
