Successive non-catalytic gas-solid reactions modeling for the hydrogen reduction of metal sulfides mixed with lime abstract
A mathematical model has been developed to describe the progress of the successive gas-solid reactions taking place in a porous pellet and has been applied to hydrogen reduction of metal sulfides in the presence of lime. Regarding assumptions made in the modeling, two second order ODE’s fromgas reactants mass balance, one second order PDE from energy balance and two first order ODE’s from reaction rates are prepared, which are coupled together through temperature and gases reactant concentration. Simultaneous solution of these equations yields distribution of concentration andtemperature as a function of time and location. The presented pathway is a general frame for modeling of the non-catalytic successive gas solid reactions. The results predicted by the general form of the model have been evaluated using experimental data related to hydrogen reduction of molybdenum disulfide and also cuprous sulfide in the presence of lime.
