A comparison between Brushless Doubly Fed Induction Generators and other common usable generators in Wind Farm abstract
As wind energy technologies develops fast and total capacity of them growth significantly day by day, wind energy generation systems needs more reliability and competitive prices. Gearbox, generators and convertors are key parts of wind turbines, which consumes a high percentage of investments and operation costs; therefore, it is indispensable to compare wind turbine generators. In this article, we analyse prevalent generators in wind turbines such as doubly-fed induction generator with single-stage gearbox (DFIG-1G), doubly-fed induction generator with three-stage gearbox (DFIG-3G), permanent magnet synchronous generator with two-stage gearbox (PMSG-2G) and permanent magnet synchronous generator –direct drive (PMSG-DD) economically and technically by considering generator price, gearbox price, convertor price, maintenance costs and power density.
