Abstract:
In this paper we investigate the mechanisms of bacterial resistance to antimicrobial peptides such histatins. Since these peptides can be a good alternative to antibiotics and related problems such as antibiotic resistance; understanding the mechanisms of microbial resistance to them, can be useful for the development of their production as effective antimicrobial agents and avoid problems related to antimicrobial resistance. For this purpose with review of previous studies, we first explain the problems of antibiotics. Then, with the introduction of defense peptides such as histatins, we studied the mechanisms of resistance against them. Compared with previous studies, results showed that the resistance against these peptides are less than antibiotics, so they can be used for therapeutic purposes that subsequently, have the reducing in microbial pollution of the environment.. Of course, should still be paid attention to understanding the mechanisms of resistance against them and ahead ways to reduce them.
