Abstract:

Wastewater of textile industry often Contain significant amounts of toxic dyes. One of the methods to removal of organic toxic dyes is using of advanced electrochemical oxidation processes (AEOPS). In this process, Hydrogen peroxide is continuously generating by electro-chemical reactions through of applying electrical current to the anode and cathode electrodes plunged in the wastewater. Then, air is blowing into wastewater while Fe3+ was added to the solution and by attacking to organic pollutants mineralizes and removes them from wastewater. In this study, at the first step the photo electro-Fenton (PEF) process under visible light irradiation has been used for the removal of Reactive Blue 221 (RB221) from aqueous solution. The effect of operational parameters such as applied current density, Fe3+ and oxalate concentration, initial pH, initial concentration of pollutants and presence or absence of visible light was studied in an attempt to reach the higher dye removal efficiency. The mineralization of RB221 dye after PEF under optimum condition ([Dye]0= 50 mg/L, electrolysis time =180 min, I=300 A/m2, [Fe3+]0= 0.015 mM, [Na2SO4]0= 0.05 M and pH=3) was investigated by total organic carbon (TOC) measurement. TOC percent removal was obtained 66.2%.
