Abstract:

In recent years, due to the need to lighten the final products especially in automation industry and aerospace industry, using aluminum alloys has drawn much attention. High strength to weight ratio and also suitable corrosion resistant are the main advantages of these materials. Lacking good formability in room temperature, forming of aluminum alloys in higher temperatures is proposed. One of the forming process at elevated temperatures is warm hydroforming which is not enough studied. This paper deals with the forming of flat-bottom cylindrical cups using hydrodynamic deep drawing (HDD) assisted by radial pressure in warm isothermal condition experimentally and numerically. Temperature of the tools and forming speed was considered as two important process parameters. It was demonstrated that required forming force was decreased with increase in punch speed and tools temperature. Additionally, studying the thickness distribution of final parts showed decrease in minimum part thickness with increasing and decreasing of temperature and punch speed, respectively.
