Abstract:
Hydrocephalus is an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within ventricles and subarachnoid space (SAS) as a result of disturbances in secretion or absorption procedures. In this paper at first the procedures of production, circulation and absorption of CSF is studied, then mathematical relations governing the pressures in different interacting compartments of the brain are considered. Based on physiology of brain brain and blood circulation, mechanical and electrical model is extracted. In order to research about hydrocephaly and evaluated shunt effects, in electrical model, hydrocephalous is modeled with increasing resistance and shunt modeled with parallel , then obtained model is simulated and analyzed in MATLAB. In this model input voltage represented the arterial pressure. Results simulation can be used to predict shunt performance in CSF pressure decreasing before real shunt implanted in patient.
