Investment Opportunities In Lorestan

In this paper,a humble attempt is made to identify a few areas of investment feasible in Lorestan, Iran. Some prospective areas suggested are tourism, information technology (IT) , insurance, education and agro-processing industries.. It seems that there is a great scope to promote and make tourism a major industry in Lorestan because it seems to have rich history and suitable climate and scenic environment to attract foreign tourists. It can become like Switzerland and Singapore. With educated, young and cheap labour, IT industry , as in caseof India, can be an important industry generating employment and revenue through exports. Insurance sector seems to have huge investment potential as it is presently underdeveloped. Investment also needs to be done injob-oriented education to reduce the unemployment among the youth. FDI (foreign direct investment) can be invited in these sectors. Also there will be a need for work-force to learn some foreign languages. It is expected that with sanctions removed, many foreigners specially Iranian expatriates, would be willing to invest in Iran in general and in Lorestan in particular
