Per formative Design: New Directions in Digital Architectural Design

Though design for building performance is traditionally considered an evaluative act, current developments in digital design are promoting new directions for performance-based models of design. Theperformance-based architectural design, in which building performance became a guiding influence design, becomes a grateful approach in the design process. This paper introduces and elaborates a specific approach to architectural design entitled ‘Performative Design’ based on a redefinition of the concept of ‘performance’ in relation to the discipline of architecture. The paper as a descriptive and analyticresearch categorizes the digital models and defines the tools used in this approach which are Parametric modeling, Simulation, Optimization andGeneration and defines that the performance-based design works on the both simulation and optimization process in design and performativearchitecture is dependent on particular performance-related aspects of each project.
