Simulation of strong ground motion for the 2003 Bam earthquake, SE Iran abstract
strong ground motion recorded during the 2003 Bam earthquake have been simulated using two different methods. The first methods is a hybrid method, which combine stochastic and Empirical Greens function (EGM) methods. While, the second method is based on a stochastic Finite-Fault simulation method. Comparison of simulated and observed records based on peak accelerating, duration, frequency contents and response spectra for these two methods indicate that the hybrid method give more reliable estimation compare to SFFM method. Also, simulation indicates that the rupture started from south of Bam at depth of 8 km and propagated toward north.
