Abstract:

Nano copper oxide supported on silica has been synthesized and in order to obtain detailed informationsabout its microstructure, morphology and determination of the amount of supported copper oxide on silica bed, SEM,TEM, XRD and atomic adsorption spectroscopy were carried out. The morphology of CuO nanoparticles supported onsilica show that copper species in the catalyst have spherical shapes and are distributed uniformly over the SiO2 support.Copper particles exhibit a narrow size distribution of 20-40 nm with an average diameter of 30 nm. X-ray diffractionpattern of copper oxide nanoparticles supported on silica is shown that all diffraction peaks are index with thecorresponding planes of CuO. The efficiency of this catalytic system was examined in the cross coupling reactions ofvarious aryl halides with imidazole as a heterocyclic nucleophilic substrate.
