Abstract:
The business world today bears a great resemblance to sports events like Olympics where only the fittest can survive. The business Olympics goes on and on grows tougher and tougher with the technological revolution and the globalization of the world’s economy. The times of this profound change offers unlimited opportunities to the companies with the vision, the courage and the ability to seize them and mortal threats to
those who do not or cannot adopt. Thai Acrylic Fibre Co. Ltd., Thailand, the winner of Japan Quality Medal 2005 from Deming Prize Committee, Japan has achieved business performance excellence through successful deployment of Total Quality Management as Business Strategy and has emerged a winner in this business Olympics. ‘Thai Acrylic’ evolved and developed its unique business excellence framework under the Total Quality Management system Under this framework the customers included all internal and external stakeholders and a paradigm shift in Quality from “Managing for Quality” to “Quality of Management” was made. The approaches focused on strengthening the processes and continuously improve them to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. Quality for ‘Thai Acrylic’ is a business strategy and a customer focused approach the key business driver. ‘The success story of ‘Thai Acrylic’ is an outcome of years of organization building through people’s process and is driven by a strong leadership vision. The ‘Top Management Leadership, Vision and Strategies’ and a strong focus on ‘Human Resource Development’ are the fundamentals of “Total Quality Management” system. This paper brings forth the company’s unique approach and the successful deployment of Total Quality Management methodology with a strong emphasis on its human resource development to ensure the qualitative involvement of all its employees in continuous improvement process.
