Effect of l-carnitine on nestin gene expression in neurogenic differentiated mesenchymal stem cells from rat adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells abstract

Background: L-carnitine (LC) as natural compound demonstrated to be involved in some biological process such as inhibition of oxidative stress, reduction of inflammation and increased antioxidant defense. Objective: The purpose of this study is isolation and culture of adipose tissue derived-mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs), neurogenic differentiation and gene expression of nestin as neurotrophic factor in the presence of LC. Material and methods: ADSCs were isolated from rat and differentiated to neuron. Neurogenic differentiated cells were treated with LC. The nestin gene expression was determined by Real-time PCR. Results: PCR analysis showed that the level of nestin was increased in the treated cells with LC. Conclusions: These findings indicated that LC could be used to reconstruction and improvement of neurons.
