Abstract:

There are more than 10,000 dyes consumed in the textile industry. The goal of this research is to investigate of acid red18 (AR18) dye from urban drinking water by batch proxy electrochemical reactor with using zinc-copper electrode (distance 2 cm) and hydrogen peroxide. The variables include pH(4-10), concentration of AR18(100-300mg/L), reaction time(15-45min), concentration of hydrogen peroxide(0.5-1.5 mg/L), and current density (3-9 mA/cm2). In electrochemical reactor, the removal percentage for AR18 concentration(100mg/L) in current density 9 mA/cm2 and electrolysis time 15min in pHs 4, 7, and 10 are obtained 66%, 61%, and 56%, respectively. In electrochemical reactor, the removal percentage for AR18 concentration (300mg/L) in current density 9 mA/cm2 and electrolysis time 15min in pHs 4, 7, and 10 are obtained 46%, 41%, and 36%, respectively. In proxy electrochemical reactor, the removal percentage for AR18 concentration (100 mg/L), in optimum conditions, in hydrogen peroxide concentration 1.5 mg/L, current density 9 mA/cm2, optimum pH 4, electrolysis time 15 min in AR18 concentrations 100, 200, and 300 are obtained 100%, 98%, and 88%, respectively. The findings indicate that AR18removal efficiency is increased with increasing current density, electrolysis time, and decreasing AR18 concentration. Proxy electrochemical method has appropriate efficiency for the AR18 removal from water.
