Abstract:
The catalytic activity of a molybdenum (IV) complex (1) was studied, for the first time, in the oxidation of various primary and secondary alcohols to the corresponding aldehydes or ketones in water, using hydrogen peroxide as green oxidant. The effect of other parameters such as solvent, concentration of catalyst and temperature were also investigated. The complex 1, as catalyst, exhibited good catalytic activity in the oxidation of various alcohols with hydrogen peroxide. It was found that different primary alcohols gave the corresponding aldehyde without further oxidation to carboxylic acids in good yields.
