Abstract:

Lignocellulosic materials including forestry, agricultural and agro-industrial wastes areaccumulated in large quantities every year which causes serious environmental problems. Howeverthese wastes have the potential of conversion to several high value-added substances such asethanol, glucose and single cell products.The key element in bioconversion process oflignocellulosics is the hydrolytic enzymes mainly cellulases. Cellulases are inducible enzymeswhich are synthesized by microorganisms during their growth on cellulosic materials. Fungies arethe main cellulase producing microorganisms and Aspergillus and Trichoderma are the mainfungal genera that are used for commercial production of cellulase. Food, pharmaceutical andbiofuels industry productions can be produced through the fermentation of lignocellulose, either bysubmerged or solid-state fermentation systems.
