Abstract:

In this study, the 1-h period measured wind speed data for 2011 at 10 m height and calculated at 50 m height for Gorgan airport in northeastern region of Iran have been statistically analyzed to determine the wind power generation potential with different strategies. Strategies include the hourly, daily, monthly, seasonally and annual.Weibull density function has been used to determine the wind power density and energy of the region. Another purpose of this work is to find best method for calculating wind power between the standard deviation method and the power density method. The obtained annual mean wind speed at 50 m height is 2.9962 m/s and annual mean measured wind power, standard deviation method and power density method are 41.3 (w/m2), 38.98(w/m2) and 41.32 (w/m2) respectively. Results show that power density method was found to be a better method of calculation in evaluating the wind energy potential
