Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to investigate the capability of the electromechanical impedance method to identify corrosion. For this purpose, using permanent installation of piezoelectric on structures, the real time ability of fault detection has been investigated. On the other hand, due to the high frequency used in the health monitoring technique by the electromechanical impedance method, it has been shown that the method has the ability to detect minor faults which are at their initiation stages of formation. In this paper, the effect of closeness or remoteness of faults and also largeness or smallness of corrosion area has been evaluated using piezoelectric via the electromechanical impedance method ability on a clamped beam of aluminum 1101. In the laboratory and modeling sections, corrosion depth and level of corrosion has respectively increased to increase corrosion surface area. In order to quantitatively detect a fault, the scalar damage criterion has been used conventionally. The obtained results have demonstrated that the analytical theory used has an acceptable level of conformity with empirical (laboratory) experiments and has been well able to detect closeness or remoteness and also largeness or smallness of an existing corrosion fault.
