REMOTE SENSING DATA ANALYSIS AND DIGITAL ELEVATION MODEL TO STUDY LANDSCAPE EVOLUTION IN THE ZAGROS STRUCTUTAL BELT, SOUTH WEST IRAN abstract

The modern land surface in the Zagros Structural Belt (ZSB)typically contains the information used to understand the deformation history due to tectonic activities. The Zagros Mountains are parts of Alpine-Himalayan orogenic system. The Zagros structural belt is one the best exposed fold-thrust belts in geological point of view. The orogene is divided into three structural zones as, 1-An inner crystalline Zone of overthrusting, 2-An Imbricated Belt, and 3-Zone of Folding that often referred to the Simply Folded Belt (SFB). Present study has been attempted to develop a model of landscape evolution which is controlled by the tectonic processes in the ZSB. The geomorphic analysis using remotely sensed data and GIS techniques exhibit correlation between tectonic and landscapes development in the ZSB. It is shown that most of the landscapes are generated due to the new tectonic activities which can be a response to the Hologene deformation of the ZSB.
