Effect of Geo-synthetic Reinforcement in Reduction of Settlement Caused by Liquefaction abstract

The loose saturated sands are vulnerable to liquefaction and settlement during earthquakes. The reinforcement by geo-synthetics could reduce settlement due to liquefaction. In this paper, the effect of reinforcement by geo-synthetics is evaluated by a numerical model. The results show considerable reduction in liquefaction potential, reduction in settlement, and prevention of soil softening, when soil is reinforced by geo-synthetics.
