high school english textbooks vs top -notch seies:the viewpoint of iranian efl teachers abstract

The present study aimed to compare the Iranian EFL teachers’ evaluation of high school English textbooks with that of Top-Notch series. For this purpose, the questionnaire developed by Alamri (2008) was employed for data collection purposes in this study. Then, the number of 70 questionnaires was randomly distributed among 70 Iranian EFL teachers of high school and English institutions (40 for Top Notch series and 30 for high school English textbooks). This questionnaire, in particular, was to evaluate twelve categories as follows: A) general appearance, B) design and illustration, C) accompanying materials, D) objectives, E) topic contents, F) language contents, G) social and cultural contexts, H) language skills, I) teach ability, J) flexibility, K) teaching methods, and L) practice and testing. The results of the study were indicative of the presence of a significant difference between teachers’ evaluation of high school books and of Top-Notch series in favor of Top-Notch series in the above-mentioned categories. In fact, only in the categories entitled objectives as well as social and cultural contexts the significant difference cannot be observed.
