Abstract:

Guilaki and Persian are two known Iranian languages with several differences in terms of syntax and lexicon. The present study aimed to explore the extent of similarity and/or difference between them in comparison with English. To that end, the English structures containing attributive adjectives, possessive determiners, as well as possessive and non-possessive relations were compared with their corresponding forms in Guilaki and Persian. The findings revealed the high level of resemblance between Guilaki and English, contrary to Persian, in terms of the first three structures. However, only Persian and English were similar in terms of non-possessive relations. The researchers believed that such structural relationship, especially similarities, between languages could be beneficial in instructional settings. More specifically, they could be regarded as a teaching instrument for Guilaki EFL learners
