Abstract:

This study was an endeavor to investigation the role of reading strategy instruction on English as Foreign language (EFL) learners' reading anxiety and reading comprehension performance. 80 EFL Learners were selected from a private language institute. Forty of them were assigned to experimental group and the other forty participants were assigned to control group randomly. Prior to any experimentation, the participants took the reading exam, and also to find out whether the groups were homogeneous in terms of reading anxiety and strategy use, the reading anxiety questionnaires and the strategy use questionnaires were administrated to them. Then the experimental group received reading strategy instruction. Then, both groups took a reading exam, foreign language reading anxiety questionnaire and strategy use questionnaire. The result indicated that reading strategy awareness had a positive effect on learners' reading comprehension performance and could reduce the learners' anxiety level
