The effectiveness of problem-solving skills education on marital conflicts in couples supported by relief committee

Background: communication skill training andsolving problems in couple with conflicts result inimprovement of marital relationships as well asreducing conflicts and also increase ofpsychological health in couple. Because peoplesupported by relief committee experience highfinancial problems, may be more faced with couplemarital conflicts. Hence, the presence study aimedto assess the effectiveness of problem-solving skillseducation on resolving marital conflicts amongcouple supported financially by in Iran.Methods: The study population consisted of 11couples that referred to counseling center of theImam Khomeini relief committee in Ilam, Iran in1111 because of severe conflicts anddisagreements. The couple were randomly assignedto two case group (that participated in aneducational program consisted of 8 sessions (01minutes for each session) for total 1 months) andcontrol group (that receive no educationalinterventions).Results: No differences were revealed in differentaspects of marital conflict between the case andcontrol groups in pretest assessment, while inposttest assessment. Among different aspects ofmarital conflicts, the mean scores for thecomponents of increase of cooperation, increase ofsexuality, reduce of emotional reactions, reduce ofinter-personal relationship with relatives, increaseof relationship with spouse and friends, and alsofinancial independency were all significantlyreduced in case group, but not in control group.Conclusion: problem-solving skill education as anobjective approach is a formative skill that canreduce problems related to different aspects ofmarital conflicts.
