Photooxidative decolorization of Basic yellow 2 by UV/H2O2 process in an annular photoreactor: Influence of operational parameters and kinetic modeling abstract

The textile effluent is a major industrial polluter because it is highly colored; containing about 15% unfixed dyes as well as high levels of salts that can potentially be discharged into the environment. In this study, the photooxidation removal of synthetic effluent was studied by UV/H2O2 process in an annular photoreactor. Removal efficiency of Basic yellow 2 (BY2) was sensitive to the operational parameters such as time, initial concentration of H2O2 and dye. The semi-logarithmic graphs of the concentration of BY2 versus time were linear, suggesting pseudo-first order reaction (kap, opt= 0.109 min-1). A simple kinetic model is proposed which confirms pseudo-first order reaction.
