Legal Approach in Protecting Sport Persons from Doping and Misuse of Medications abstract
This paper examines the development of doping based on the data of relevant Sports and Health Organizations and the currently applied rules and regulations as well as the legal measures taken against doping. Whilst doping in the first place was primarily used by professional sportsmen to increase their performance to get an advantage over competitors, recent development shows that doping has also been widely used in amateur sports. The German `Statistisches Bundesamt´ states in their annual report in 2006, that 15% of sportsmen dope in leisure sports. Triggered by the misuse of drugs in sports, there is also a considerable increase of misuse of medication in job and study. The German Health Insurance `DAK´ states in their annual report of 2009 that 20% of people dope for the sake of a better performance. There are international authorities such as WADA fighting against doping in sports but the menace still continues.
