Numerical Analysis of the Motion and Vaporization of the Droplets in a Cement Plant Gas Conditioning Tower abstract
In the present study the motion, vaporization and heat transfer of the water droplets in a gas conditioning tower (GCT) has been analyzed numerically. The details of the flow field and dust motion in GCT were presented in the earlier work of the present authors. In this study the effect of different parameters such as the nozzle distances from the walls, droplet sizes and also water flow rate on the temperature distribution are investigated. The equations of the droplets motion were solved with a Lagrangian approach. Because of the energy exchange between gas and vaporized droplets, the equation of energy was also solved with an Eulerian approach. The results show that the most important parameter on the cooling operation of the GCT is the droplet size. In the next steps, SGD angle and the nozzle distances from the GCT walls are the effective parameters. The results also showed that using a high angle SGD increases the velocity and swirl of the gas in the tower which augments the vaporization of the droplets. But having the results of the flow field and dust motion from the ref [1] high care should be taken in increasing the angle of SGD .Because for a high angle SGD, dust particles trap more in the GCT wall especially in the wet locations near the nozzles and results in to a dust build up in the GCT wall. In other word there is an optimum angle for the SGD in which the gas velocity and swirl is augmented enough and also the dust build up does not happen on the GCT walls.
