Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of Geotechnical uncertainties on the reliability of bearing capacity of square foundations. Three formulations for bearing capacity have been examined: Terzaghi, Meyerhof and Hansen methods. In this article the coefficient of variation of soil parameters influencing on bearing capacity of shallow foundations is gathered and the effect of these parameters on reliability index is investigated and depicted. Foundations are very important and often high safety factor is used during the design; therefore, it is expected to have a considerably small failure probability. Subset simulation as a powerful method to calculate failure probability of rare events is utilized in this paper for calculating reliability indices
