The wide range of activities regulated by PTEN

PTEN stands for phosphatase andTENsin homolog deleted on chromosome10and is a classical tumor suppressor gene located in the10q23region of chromosome10.The gene encodes a multifunctional protein with403residues, which has lipid and protein phosphatase activity.It has been shown that PTENgene/protein dosage is quantitatively relevant during tumor development such that a partial loss of PTENfunction (haploinsufficiency) promotes growth in some human malignancies.
