Transient Stability Enhancement Using STATCOMBased ANN Controller abstract
In present scenario, the major concern of the power engineers is to increase the power transfer capability of the existing system and powersystem stability for increasing system performance and reliable operation. This led to the development of FACTS technology. FACTScontrollers enhance power transfer capability as well as power system stability. In this paper an ANN controller is designed for STATCOM toenhance the transient stability of the power system. The ANNs controller is designed using a radial basis network. Radial basisnetworks can be used to approximate functions. The control signals to the ANNs controller are the generator speed and its derivative and thetarget is the voltage source inverter firing angle alpha. The nonlinear ANNs controller is used to overcome the problems generated bydifferent uncertainties existing in power systems when designing electro- mechanical oscillation damping controllers. Proposed controlleris implemented on a SMIB system to confirm the performance of the controller through simulation results.
