Variable Threshold Scheme for Applied Residual Evaluation of an Industrial Plant Fault Detection abstract

A fault detection scheme requires two main steps. The first step generates the residual, which are functions that carry information about the faults. The second step is a decision making routine about occurrence of a fault by residual evaluation. In this paper several online algorithms for residual evaluation are examined in practice, and a new method is proposed by which the occurrence of incipient faults is effectively isolated from the abrupt set point changes in the system. The implementation results show how effective the proposed method performs in practice.
