Investigation in Soil Stabilization using a New Cement-Bitumen Emulsion - Case Study of Dugorun-Herat Project (Management and Quality Control) abstract
The use of an emulsion can enable a soil to oppose the action of capillary water, but it does not follow that the soil will remain stable when immersed in water. It has been found that when cement is used with emulsion there is an increase in the ability of the soil to remain unaffected when external water conditions are high. In addition to imparting strength to the soil the cement also assists the emulsion to break. Emulsion – cement- soil mixes are characterized by a certain amount of strength obtained from the cement while retaining the flexibility of a bitumen-bound mixture. In this research the construction process, experimental results and the management system of the Dugorun-Herat project is explained. The main characteristic of the soil stabilization method is using bitumen foam in traditional mixture. Controlling the quality of soil stabilization shows that this method is successful and has important advantages compare with the other methods. Details of this practical project are
presented.
