Astronomical Tide Measurements and sea Level Analysis abstract
The gravitational attraction of the moon causes the oceancs to bulge out both sides of the rotating, elastic earth along the line joining the two bidies. The average level of the sea, relative to a fixed point on land, is usualy based on hourly values taken over a long period of time, at least a year. this average is called mean sea level (MSL).
Meteorological conditions which differ from the average will cause variations in sea level. the difference is due to strong and prolpnged winds. Barometric pressure being also an effect to parameter.
One of the most important variables which describes, the dynamic state of the ocean is sea level. The astronomical tide records over the period from 1990 to 2000 have been analyzed to examine sea-level variability in the Persian Gulf.
The Mean Sea Level (MSL) was obtained in order to investigate its variations. The spectral analysis is applied to mean sea level data for two gauge stations (Bandar Abbas and Bushehr). Power spectra are also computed for mean value of air pressure, air temperature and wind speed.
The spectrum of tide records for two stations show groups of the diurnal and semidiurnal constituents which are due to the astronomcal tide.
