Abstract:
The objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of English songs on EFL learners’ grammar in task-based language teaching classroom. To fulfill this objective, the Quick Placement Test (2003) was administered to 40 intermediate EFL students attending English class in Safir English Language Academy and ultimately 30 homogeneous intermediate learners were selected and randomly divided into two groups as musical and non-musical mode groups. The participants were examined based on some tasks which probed into the learners' grammar ability through songs of pop music genre which they received during 4 weeks. The results of a series of t-tests revealed that the musical- mode group outperformed non-musical mode group. The findings suggested that songs are not merely entertaining tools but they can be utilized as pedagogical materials particularly when it comes to task-based language teaching
