Abstract:

One prime example of sound pollution in industry is the sound generated by the involvement of gears. The researchers have simulation a sound pressure level generated by a pair of helical gear. The stress distribution of a pair of helical gears is used in verification of this simulation. The Abaqus commercial finite element software is used for in this simulation. To verify the accuracy of this simulation, the simulation is compared with available results; where a good agreement is found in between. The sound pressure level is simulated through Abaqus commercial software. To reduce this sound level, authors modify the gear profile though Kiss Soft software. The modifications of the profiles are made in two manners: tip rounding and shortening the height of the teeth of the cylindrical gear with hobbing cutter. The results indicate that modified profile gear though tip rounding provides the most efficient results in terms of this noise and stress reduction
