Abstract:

Homework provides an opportunity for practice and learning to occur outside the classroom and teachers very often use it in the teaching process. Although homework is assigned for a variety of academic and non-academic purposes sometimes there is disagreement within the educational community about the value of homework and the amount of homework students should be assigned. The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of homework on writing skill. In this study, subjects were among Iranian third grade junior high school students and divided to two classes. One class received treatment (experimental group) and another did not (control group). Treatment consists of writing homework and it was executed during 8 sessions. Before assigning homework, a pre- test was represented to two groups. The post-test was administered at the end of sessions. The data was analyzed statistically to identify means, standard deviation, and t-value. It was found that the group receiving homework performed better that their counterpart who experienced no homework
