Abstract:
Miscible gas injection is an efficient Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) method, leading to high microscopic and macroscopic efficiencies. An effective parameter in miscible gas injection is the Minimum Miscibility Pressure (MMP), which is the lowest pressure at which the oil in-place and the injected gas become miscible at a fixed temperature.CO2 injection is a practical preference for this purpose, because of its low MMP and satisfying environmental concerns. Emission flue gases from power plants is an available source of CO2; however the costs of gas extractions may cause problems. Therefore, understanding the roles of impurities in miscibility pressure is an important issue. In this work, first, the CO2 MMP was calculated, then the impact of impurities such as Nitrogen, Methane, Ethane and Propane on the MMP was studied. Results of the calculations showed that Nitrogen content increases the CO2 MMP more than Methane. Increasing the Propane content decreases the CO2 MMP significantly, while Ethane does not have any significant effect on the CO2 MMP.
