Abstract:
This quasi-experimental study was conducted to investigate the effects of two different textual enhancement formats on the intake of English phrasal verbs in Iran where English is regarded as a foreign language. The participants were 60 students from Shiraz. They aged 17-18 and were at grade 11 of high school. They were assigned into two experimental groups. This study lasted for 10 sessions over 6 weeks with a proficiency test, a pre-test, an immediate post-test and a delay post-test research design. The textual enhancement formats used here were highlight and bold. The finding of the study revealed that textual enhancement formats affected the intake of phrasal verbs positively. Comparing the results of immediate and delay posttests it was indicated that both formats impact on intake of phrasal verbs were same among Iranian language learners. The results indicated that both types of noticing had long lasting effects on noticing and in result on intake of phrasal verbs.
