Abstract:

This study aimed at investigating the Iranian teachers’ awareness of their roles in the classroom and also the possible difference between the applicability and the practice of the roles. The independent variables investigated were gender, experience, and academic qualifications. The sample of the study consisted of 60 Iranian teachers working at schools and language institutes in the west of Iran. Two questionnaires were used to collect the data necessary to answer the study questions. ANOVA, means, and standard deviations were used to analyze the data collected. The two means regarding Applicability and Practice were not significantly different from each other but the mean for Applicability was somehow bigger than the mean for Practice. The findings of the study also revealed that Iranian teachers’ awareness of role Applicability and Practice was High . This could, also, mean that Iranian teachers of language do not practice what they think applies on them as the fruit of the in-service-training programs has not ripened yet.
