Abstract:

This paper examines the generation and propagation of a third order solitary water wave along thechannel. To study the wave propagation phenomenon, here, firstly the meshless IncompressibleSmoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (ISPH) numerical method is described. Secondly, the boundarycondition handling method, discretization, timestep selection and geometry provitions are presented.The numerical model is then used to simulate solitary wave propagation along the fixed depth channel.Here two still water depths of h=0.2m and h=0.3m are assumed and the dimensionless height ofdesired wave ranging from ɛ=0.1 to ɛ=0.6 are simulated. The numerical results are compared withanalytical data in terms of free surface displacements, fluid particle velocity, phase speed, flow fieldcounters and some other wave parameters. In general, the numerical model gives satisfactory resultsfor the wave kinematics.
