Landslide susceptibility determination and modeling using GIS abstract
Landslide susceptibility is linked to the spatial aspects of hazard. A variety of approaches have been used in slope instability mapping and can be classified into qualitative factor overlay, statistical models, geotechnical process models and recently Digital Train Modelling (DTM). The aim and objectives of this research are to study the sustainability of landslides on natural terrain using DTM for modeling slope instability using GIS. The locations were identified in the Barde kar district from interpretation of soil type and geology, aerial photographs (covered map produced by satellite data) and maps of the topography. Data were collected and built into a geospatial database using GIS. The factors that influence landslide event, such as slope, aspect of topography, were calculated from the topographic database. Lithology was extracted and classified from the geological database. Analyzing the susceptibility of landslide was carried out using the landslide event factors. The GIS was used to analyze the data efficiently, and statistical programs were used to sustain accuracy and specificity. Results which extract from the analysis were verified using the landslide location data. The agreement of Satisfactory between the susceptibility map and the existing data on landslide location prove the validation of results. To reduce associated hazards and plan land use the results can be used.
