Abstract:

Three point bending test is one of the mechanical tests that is used in different fields such as measuring the flexibility of parts in the process of designing. In order to formulizing the amount of flexibility by the elastic relations, a parameter named flextural strength is obtained. The part which is studied in this article is a bakalite insert with the glass fibers that is a part of seperating electrical connectors. The flexibility of this part is very important in order to prevent the break of this part. Due to that in three point bending test we can just obtain the amount of extention for the certain amount of actuating force, so that determining the elastic modulus and flextural strength of the material is imposible. For this purpose, we can use a combined method of bending test, analytical relations and finite element simulation. In this article, the steps of this simulation with ABAQUS software, analyzing the results and the method of using this simulation to determine the elastic modulus and flextural strength for the decided part in three tested samples is explained.
