Abstract:
The quality of drinking water has an important role in human health. This study was aimed to detecting E. coli, Salmonella sp. and Vibrio cholerae from bottled drinking water. A total of 240samples of bottled water of different brands colected from Mar 2015 to Dec 2015. Samples wereexamined by polymerase chain reaction methods for detection of E. coli, Salmonella species, and Vibrio cholerae. Culture method was used to isolate the targeted bacteria. The results of PCR revealed that the uidA gene from E. coli, IpaB gene from Salmonella species, and epsM gene from Vibrio cholerae were detected in 6 (2.5%), 1 (0.4 %), 0 (0%) of the samples, respectively. But in culture methods the contamination rate of bottle drinking water were 5 (2.1%) forE. coli but Salmonella and V. cholerae did not isolate from the samples. The Escherichia coli water contamination was significantly higher (P < 0.05) in the hot seasons than cold seasons. This study confirmed the presence of Escherichia coli as water-borne pathogens in bottle drinkingwater in Iran. Also our study showed that the polymerase chain reaction assays can be used as a screening method for monitoring the enteric pathogens in drinking water
