Abstract:
Titanium and titanium alloys are widely used as biomedical materials in long-term and short-term biological applications because of their good biocompatibility and mechanical properties. One of major complication associated with these implants is bacterial infections. It is well known that bacteria adhesion and colonization in implantation site affects biocompatibility and biofunctionability of implant. To prevent such infections, silver nanoparticles has been used as an effective antibacterial agent that reduces bacterial infection by attacking bacteria s cellular units. In this investigation, Ag-nanoparticle (Ag-NP) modified surface was prepared by silanization method. Titanium coupons were etched by Piranha solution and subsequent silanization has been done by APTES ((3-amimopropyl)treithoxysilane) solution. Finally, Ag-NPs have been deposited on the surface by immersing prepared samples in silver nitrate solution. Field Emission - Scattering Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS) analyses has shown that by increasing etching and silanization time, deposited particle size increased. Moreover, by altering APTES containing solvent, deposited particle size may be impressed
