Abstract:

Al90-Ni8-Zr2)(100-x)Mmx alloys were rapidly solidified by using melt spinning technique to study the effect of the Lanthanides content on microstructure and physical properties. The melt spun ribbonswere characterized by XRD, DSC, TEM and Vickers microhardness tester. XRD and TEM results show that Al90Ni8Zr2 alloy consists of amorphous and nanocrystalline α-Al but other ribbons are completely amorphous. In addition, higher activation energy of the crystallization of amorphous to α-Alnanocrystals in the Lanthanides bearing samples indicates that the glass forming ability increased byMisch metal content of the samples. On the other hand, microhardness results illustrate that the higher the Misch metal content, the higher the hardness of the ribbons.
