Novel microfibers of rotaxanes from the Inclusion Complex Reactions of α, β, γ-Cyclodextrins with copolymer of poly(thiourethane)

Toluene diisocyanate (TDI) makes a thiourethane copolymer with sulfide groups. This copolymer forms hexagonal crystalline structures that become inclusion compounds with α, β and γ-cyclodextrins in dimethyl formamide (DMF) solution. The crystalline structure of the copolymer immediately changes to microfibers upon the inclusion reaction with cyclodextrins. In this process, the diameter of the microfibers is controlled by the diameter and size of the cyclodextrin s cavity; making a novel route in designing macromolecular microfiber structures with specific diameters
